Land Use Expertise with Dr Alex Lees
As a biodiversity and climate change expert, Dr Alex Lees offers a unique perspective on land use and how it may alter over time. Dr Lees invites us to consider the significance of trees, which take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, and their role in reducing greenhouse gases which contribute to a warming planet. Dr Lees also invites us to consider peat land, farm land, and the presence of carbon in our soil, with particular focus on which types of land should be celebrated and which we may seek to reconsider. Peatland, for example, may not be the prettiest of landscapes, and yet it is crucial in our fight against climate change. When functioning correctly, Peatland absorbs and stores large amounts of carbon, which makes its preservation and restoration of Peatland essential throughout Britain!
